Member Forms and Information

BCU Membership Form Updated 12/9/08

Form to become a member or renew membership.

You must be a Comprehensive Member to take Coaching programs.

Reinstatement Form

Where individual membership has lapsed, BCU/SCA/WCA/CANI Coaching Service qualifications can be restored on the following basis:

1.  If the membership is allowed to lapse for a period of less than 3 years the coach can reactivate qualifications by paying the current year’s membership plus a $25.00 administration fee and completing the coach update requirements pertaining at the time.

If the lapsed period exceeds 3 years, the coach must pay the current years membership fee, a $25.00 administration fee, plus a £35.00 fee to cover revalidation.  This will be in the form of an action plan plus a workshop or working alongside a course provider. (As deemed by their National Coaching Officer)*. Costs for workshops will be extra.

2.  If the member is a coach and holds assessor status, re-instatement of the Assessor status held would not be automatic. Re-instatement of assessor status as appropriate (possibly at a lower level) would be re-activated on application via an agreed action plan and possible charge.

A decision on an application for assessor re-instatement and any associated action plan would depend on the number of years of lapsed membership.

*(In order to complete this process the party concerned is advised to contact their Coaching Office to initiate the process).

Coaching qualifications are only valid whilst the member holds a current first aid award.  For levels 1 and 2 coaches, this needs to be four hours training including CPR. For level 3 coaches and above eight hours including CPR/EAV.  This information is held on the database.  Please forward a copy of your first aid certificate with your re-instatement application.

Statement of

Physical Competence

Candidates who sign an application form for a course leading to a BCU qualification have agreed to the following:

I understand that in law I have a ‘duty of care’ to others, and this duty of care is enhanced with regard to my responsibility to those whom I teach because of the training and any qualification which I may receive.”

I declare that to the best of my knowledge and belief I am physically fit, and do not have any *condition which may impair my ability to be responsible for the overall safety of canoeists in my charge.”

“I do not have *diabetes or *epilepsy, and understand that in the event of any change to my fitness to be responsible for the safety of others, I must declare the fact to the Director of Coaching of the BCU.”

*The declaring of an impairment does not necessarily debar a person from holding a coaching qualification. The BCU does its utmost to ensure that only common sense conditions are placed on those who may not be able to fulfil all the requirements, both stated and implicit, for the holding of a coaching qualification. Please send sae to the BCU Office for a copy of the policy statement giving the terms of reference under which qualifications may be awarded or continue to be held.
